Q & A: Fiona Hunter-Johnston

Fiona Hunter Johnston1. When will you start your road season and what will be the first race?
Fiona: March 12/13 for the Holme Valley 2 day

2. What races will be your targets for 2016 and why?
Fiona: I would love to get my Cat 1 licence this year, as well as place well in both the national road race and the national series races this year.

3. How will you spend the time on the bike between now and your first race in training? Long miles or cutting back to do top end efforts?
Fiona: Whatever my coach tells me to do!!

4. What was your favourite Xmas present?
Fiona: I have some very fashionable sisters who manage to re-vamp my wardrobe each year without fail! I also got some very warm fluffy slippers which I am making full use of in this weather…

5. When it rains, which its doing a lot right now, is it turbo time or wrap up and get wet? (if the latter, what’s your favourite tip to stay dry in the rain)
Fiona: Get wet, that’s part of the fun right!

6. If you could do any race in the world including the best ones in the world etc, what would it be and why?
Fiona: Olympic road race, because if I have made it there, a miracle has happened!

7. What piece of food can you not do without where ever you are on the road during the season!
Fiona: Pastel de Nata. It’s a portuguese custard tart… if you haven’t tried one you haven’t lived!!

8. What is your favourite music track when warming up for a race or on the turbo?
Fiona: Nothing specific, but preferally something I can sing along loudly to :)

9. If given the option, would you prefer normal brakes or disc brakes on your road bike?
Fiona: I think giving me a pair of disc brakes would be asking for a crash. Let’s stick to what I am used to!

10. What’s the spec of your race bike for 2016 and your favourite bits on it?
Fiona: That would be telling. Watch this space… it’s still being built!
