RL360 Isle of Man Youth League Round 3

Hail showers during the early part of the evening failed to deter the 287 young cyclists who turned out at the NSC last Tuesday night for round three of Team RL360 Isle of Man’s youth league.

Overcoming the worst of the weather, Poppy Clayton retained her unbeaten record in the born 2012 & later age group. Cameron Eyres was a close second and Gracie Evans held off Seamus Hall in the tussle for third. Noah Hutchinson pipped Oliver Kennington for fifth and newcomer Timmy Clark did well to beat Kieran Binns and Austin Baglow in the race for seventh. Henry Kinrade completed the top ten leader board.

In the novices class Jackson Roberts scored his maiden win of the series. Lukas Wooton recovered from a slight tumble on the finishing straight to salvage second and Lewis Stephens edged out Orry McSevney in the dash for the final place on the podium. Leading girl Clodagh Briercliffe was fifth closely followed by Harvey Wagstaffe, Sophie Halligan, Ewan McCubbon and Holly Beattie in sixth to ninth places respectively. Elijah Clague outran fellow chasers Harper Quayle and William Chadwick to claim tenth.

Finbar McSevney outsprinted breakaway partner Jacob Wilson to bag maximum points in the born 2011 category for the third week running. A determined Abigail Cowell passed Dylan Honeyman in the closing stages to claim fourth and Bobby Kerruish held off Toby Costain in the rush for sixth. Bobby Kewley shaded Cal Joyce for eighth and Bernat Munoz-Fite grabbed tenth ahead of Macaulay Teare and Erin Morgan.

In the born 2010 race eventual winner Stanley Kinnish and runner-up Brad Le Geyt broke away from a ten-strong leading group and stayed clear to the finish. Daniel Minay ousted Billy Kneen for third and Max Messenger was too fast for Kylan Murphy, Lula Kinnish and Thomas Hutchinson in the fight for fifth. Archie Mulholland had the edge on Conor Madsen-Mygdal in the bunch gallop for ninth.

Peel girl May-Saa Smith produced one of the rides of the night to win the born 2009 class in impressive style, outsprinting Eddie Dillon and Abi Clayton in the final rush for the line. Tom Pickavance was a solid fourth and Zach Jones kept Harry Beattie and Cameron Hounsell at bay to secure fifth. Henry Dormer snatched eighth from Matthew Hooper, Max Whittaker and Finn Collister, with Florrie Thomas fronting Harry Jones for 12th.

Alec Sorby came out on top in the five-man sprint for the top slot in the born 2008 event. Freddie Griffin was second followed by T.J.Teare, Charlie Williams and Joel Long. Fearne Bregazzi, George Kinnish, Bob Radcliffe and Ella Darnill trailed in separately to fill seventh to ninth places, while Nathan Hubbard got the better of Harry Lee to round off the top ten.

Cian Howard and Orry Lund rode away from the field on the opening lap of the born 2007 contest and stayed clear to the finish. Howard won the final sprint for the honours, with Rio Kelly leading a group of eight chasers over the line for third. Florence Griffin bagged the girls’ prize in eighth spot.

In the born 2006 & earlier grouping Kiera Prentice gave the girls their third overall victory of the night, outpacing travelling companion Ivan Sorby in the dart for the flag. James Scott held off Callum Salisbury, Chloe Dillon, Mairi Harrison, Sophie Smith, Ella Griffin and Nicola Quaye in the bunch gallop for third.

Completing his third double in as many weeks, Cian Howard cruised to an easy victory in the combined under 8 and under 10 racing bikes. Orry Lund spearheaded the chasers in for second with Rio Kelly grabbing third. Eddie Dillon was the first of the U/8’s in 12th spot, while Jess Pickavance and May-Saa Smith were the top U/10 and U/8 girls in 14th and 16th places respectively.

In the U/12 “droppies” Niall Colquitt set the pace at the head of the race. Six riders followed in his wheel tracks but were unwilling to share any of the work. At the finish Tyler Annis and Owen Collins came round the hard working Colquitt to snatch first and second. Colquitt salvaged third ahead of James Scott, Ivan Sorby and Frank Kinnish. Comeback rider Oliver Corkish was a good seventh one place ahead of best girl Sophie Smith.

In the U/14 & U/16’s race a twelve-strong leading group was gradually whittled down to just seven riders. Tosh Teare was the eventual winner with Max Walker and Adam Scarffe second and third. Glen Vine’s Will Corkill was fourth and Amelia Sharpe the first girl in a good fifth place. Aaron Lund pipped James Harrison for sixth.
