Coming Soon: 2018 Otley Cycle Races

The 2018 LOGCO Otley Cycle Races which incorporates the Men and Women’s National Circuit Series will take place on Wednesday 4th July.

This is the 33rd year of the massively successful circuit races and has been designed to showcase the very best of British Elite Cycling in exciting and dramatic races the; ‘British Cycling Elite Circuit Race Series’ is one of the highlights of the summer racing calendar. It’s become the traditional mid-season party for anyone in Yorkshire who loves bike racing.

The evening starts at 18:00 with the MAS Design Consultants Super Prestige Youth Race (for under 16 boys). This is a “must win” race for these riders and consequently the event draws in riders from Newcastle, Manchester and Birmingham the winner is usually a very special rider indeed.

Max Poole from Bike Box Alan is one of the rising stars and is one to watch but will have fierce competition from Joe Pidcock, Matti Egglestone and Fin Pickering. Setting off after the boys but running concurrently (at 18.01) are the riders competing in the WGC Landscapes Otley Bike Race for under 16 girls.

Up and coming youth rider Ava Oxley-Szilagyi is one to watch as she features in both the youth race and then immediately after in the main Women’s event. WGC Landscapes has supported youth racing both in Otley for many years.

Their niche market is commercial landscape maintenance, but they would also be pleased to help you remodel your garden or office grounds. At 18:45 we have the Women’s races sponsored by the Pinsent Masons a global law company with 23 offices around the world, Otley Women’s GP which is once again part of the Women’s National Road Series and we will see some of the best female competitors in the country in action including Storey Racing, and Nicola Juniper.

One hour later at 19:45 a field of 100 local amateurs will start the Chevin Classic. This race features the best local amateur racers from across Yorkshire, and beyond, it is a great race to watch as the field whittles down lap by lap.

Finally, at 20:30 is time for the premium race of the evening the HSBC UK British Cycling National Circuit Series, sponsored by The Property Development Group. Both the 2016 and 2017 races were won by Chris Lawless, a massive 120 riders will start this race.

This exciting spectacle with its massive crowds is one of the riders and spectators favorites with past winners including Mark Cavendish, Scott Thwaites, Jeremy Hunt, Adam Blythe, Jonny Clay, and Chris Walker whose son Joey is keep up the family tradition by competing for Team Wiggins this year.

On form Tour series winner Huddersfield’s Ed Clancy is one to watch and will be up against local superstar and double world champion Tom Pidcock, who will wearing the National Champions jersey.

As a previous winner of the Classic event while only a youth, he will certainly be after this prestigious title. These two have been head to head a number of times this year and presently the score is 2:1 to Ed Clancy. Another one to watch out for is local rider with number one on his back; two times winner and Tour de France rider Scott Thwaites who will be keen to show his sparkling form.

New for this year we’ve teamed up with Yorkshire Classic Porsche who have supplied a legendary Porsche 911 for use at the front of the race. We’re delighted that they will also be providing the safety car and transport for our hospitality guests and sponsors.
