Jef Schils Memorial Road Race, 76 miles near Colchester, Essex | 1st September 2019
James Jenkins (Richardsons/Trek) added a win in the 76 mile Jef Schils Memorial race to his criterium victory at Saffron Walden the previous week. The 20 year old university student was in a break of eight that became established two hours into the race. The course followed various circuits criss-crossing a breezy Abberton Reservoir and all passing the commentators outside the Hare and Hounds at Birch Green.
An attack by eventual third-placed Ken Buckley (Nuun-Sigma Sports) finally split the break. Jenkins made his bid on the last climb through Layer Breton, finally crossing the line 14 seconds clear of James Boyman (Hoops Velo) with Buckley at 35 secs and Andy Taylor (DAP CC) next at 1:09 quickly followed by the remainder of the break, with the first of the bunch coming in at 2:44.
