Another discipline coming back for riders is track racing but only on outdoor tracks and as a fan of such tracks, great to see the racing return – here’s a preview of the League Brooks Cycles Track League 2020 at the Newcastle (Staffs) track

This Thursday: Newcastle (Staffs) Track
What: Brooks Cycles Track League 2020
Venue: Lyme Valley Stadium, Buckmaster Avenue, Newcastle-under-Lyme, Staffordshire, ST5 3BX
The Newcastle Track League starts on Thursday 6th August and initially runs every Thursday through to the 3rd September. However, if successful, we are looking at running further league events in September either on the Thursday evening or a Sunday afternoon. We have, as before, have the use of floodlights which this year have been upgraded to a higher standard.
Racing is split in to five groups of A ,B and C Class endurance, Sprinters League and a Youth League. All riders will get 4 races a night. The entry this year is only via the BC online system with the closing date the Monday before each league. For the first round we have a good field entered with Team Breeze riding. Details are here:
The league organiser Alex Webb has done a tremendous amount of work on making the event Covid safe . There will be no changing rooms open this year and no refreshments sold at the stadium. All riders will be seated in their racing groups at different locations in the stadium. Groups will not be allowed to race against each other on the night with different signing on and warm up times.
All persons entering the stadium will be temperature checked with paper numbers being issued for them to use for this season. Riders are requested to only come with one helper and all helpers must wear a mask while in the stadium. There will be sanitizer stations around the stadium for everyone to use.
Alex Webb has done a briefing video here which is on the event’s Facebook page and has been sent to all entered riders. The video details all the measures that have been taken to ensure everyone stays safe. All riders have been sent an online health survey to complete before attending the event. Anyone with any covid symptoms is requested not to attend.
As far as we are aware this is the first track event of this type since lockdown and we hope all riders enjoy the event.
