Coaching: The off-season and returning to training

Here are a few simple tips from trainSharp for when you start that training process again.

1. Look back at how your year of training went. Think about what has worked what didn’t. Use this time as an opportunity to learn and to understand yourself better. If you have a coach, communicate these ideas with them and have an end of season review.

2. Don’t cling on to summer numbers, adjust your training zones accordingly. This is the time where you can really build on that aerobic base. Remember to keep your easy rides easy.

3. Have a plan and work towards it, we all need goals as it helps us to stay focused and committed. Write down your goals somewhere! Discuss this with your coach – that is what they are there for.

4. Get the winter bike ready. If you don’t have a winter bike, things like mudguards can help you and your friends dry as well as protect your bike. Having a rear light can help you be seen even during the day time.

5. Have your indoor setup nailed. A good fan to help with cooling will always help and for a little bonus tip, if possible always have your bike set up before starting a session so all you need to do is get on and go.

Enjoy your winter of training! If you need any help or guidance, please do not hesitate to contact trainSharp – email paul@trainsharp.co.uk
