News: Pedal Club December Lunch Report

By Chris Lovibond.

The Pedal Club’s December lunch was a little out of the ordinary in that the usual talk by an invited speaker was replaced by an auction and raffle. The auction consisted of cycling items donated by members with a notable contribution from the cycling wholesaler Madison. The purpose of these fund raising activities is to provide finance for the club’s ‘John Barclay Scholarship’ fund which is intended to help promising young riders. The amount raised on this occasion exceeded £700.

It is pleasing to note that Hope Inglis, who received a donation in April 2022 has shown well in Belgian Cyclo Cross events this autumn. (see photo of Hope in action below).

The lunch, attended by fifty two members and guests saw two new women recruits receive their membership badges: they are Marion Harding and Claire Lee. Marion Harding comes from a non cycling background but found for herself the Actonia CC and then the Archer RC which developed an interest in cycling into a passion for racing, particularly track and crits which led to a second cat. licence and a handful of Masters track medals.

Claire Lee has enjoyed a twenty year cycling career which includes success in time trials (BBAR third place), track (Masters silver and bronze) and good results in national level road racing. She is also a level two track coach and a physiotherapist by profession. These are clearly two very well qualified new members; we hope and expect they will make a great contribution to the club.
