Result: Tyneside Vagabonds 100

Jon Sturman holds off John Tanner’s challenge to win the Tyneside Vagabonds 100 on 5 August

With scratch man Collin Humphrey (Sports Cover Altura) a non-starter due to a fall a few days before, the Tyneside Vagabonds 100 incorporating the Northumberland and Durham Cycling Association 100 mile Championship was contested between the 8th placed rider at this year’s National 100 Jon Sturman (blumilk.com) and multi Premier Calendar/ National Road Race Championship winner and recent RAAM competitor John Tanner (Sports Cover Altura).

Held over 5 laps of the tough and hilly M20 circuit in Northumberland, Sturman edged out Tanner by just 28 seconds to finish with a great time of 3:57:21. Wansbeck CC’s Jonathan Gavaghan rounded out the podium with a fine time and course pb of 4:09:09.

Outside of the top 3, Ian Knights (VC Briganti–Cycleways RT) took the prize for 1st Vet 40-49 on standard with +38:28, while Ray Bell (Ryton Tri) did the same in the Vet 50 and over category with +20:14.
