Metaltek-Knights of Old have taken their first win in the Pearl Izumi Tour Series in the final four laps of the race at Redditch, having done their homework of the race manual.
Team Press Release
The team have been putting in solid performances, gaining some impressive results in the previous rounds, so have shown there was potential of an amazing result when the opportunity rose, having already beaten some of the bigger UCI teams.
Round Seven at Redditch saw the Metaltek-Knights of Old team consisting of Dale Appleby, Ben Stockdale, David McGowan, Rhys Lloyd and Adam Martin ride solidly and sometimes driving the peloton chasing an early break of five riders from UK Youth, Raleigh, Rapha Condor JLT, Node4-Giordana and Madison-Genesis.
However, the lead group grew the distance throughout the race and in the remaining ten laps found themselves lapping the peloton. This meant the battle was now on for the vital placings for the important team competition.
With some confusion in the peloton of when to race for placings, the team of Metaltek – Knights of Old capitalised and moved up to the front to lead out the peloton on the crucial lap, taking the leading peloton positions of sixth, seventh and eighth, after the lead group, to take a hard earned, first team victory in the series.
Andy Swain, Team Manager said on this impressive result “It has been quite a night. We knew the lads had the ability to compete with the bigger teams at Tour Series, after their excellent team performance at Stoke finishing 4th, and that another impressive result was on the cards but to win a round is just brilliant. The lads knew what they were doing as they took up the race when it mattered and so the win is truly deserved and just rewards after the hard work and effort put in by them this year. We are chuffed to bits for Dale, Ben, Macca, Rhys and Adam!â€
Highlights of Round Seven in Redditch will be shown on ITV4 at 10pm on Wednesday 5 June, with a repeat at 10.30am on Thursday 6 June.
Round Eight sees The Pearl Izumi Tour Series visit the world famous business and shopping district of Canary Wharf on Thursday 6 June for the only Tour Series event in London.
