From Julie Rodman …

The damp weather at the HQ at the start of the race couldn’t dampen the spirits of the organiser Matthew Wood and his team of helpers tonight. With the course lit up like a Christmas tree complete with brand new signage, it made for a very good safe race and a credit to the hard work put into the event.

The race started off steadily but once on the by pass, attacks started to go off the front of the peloton. None stayed away until the end of the second lap when a group of three riders made the decisive move. Tim Mansfield and Tom Randell, Huddersfield Star Wheelers along with Matt Armitage VS Cycles.

They got a gap of 22 seconds which eventually went out to 37 seconds however working well together it stayed at a steady 22 seconds until the final lap and a half, when sensing the bunch (even though they could see the riders) weren’t gong to real them in, Jonathon Wolff Sheffrec CC bridged the gap alone to join the breakaway riders for the sprint.

Tim Mansfield sprinted for a well deserved victory from Matt Armitage and Jonathon Wolff, with Tom Andell coming in fourth. The bunch sprint was won by the experienced rider Daniel Webb now riding for Team Cystic Fibrosis from Dave Sowerby, Sowerby bros. It was a good nights racing with 35 riders taking to the start and a credible 33 finished the race. even the sun came out for the final lap.

It was a fantastic Wakefield CC promotion, with excellent marshalling and an abundance of judges on the line, a credit to all involved. Not to mention the legendary butties at the finish, well worth the entry fee in itself.
