Top sprinter Hannah Barnes MG Maxifuel used her top end speed to good effect winning the latest round of the season long Women’s Team Race Series sponsored by Shutt Velo Rapide and held on the Oakley circuit in Buckinghamshire.
This course is known for favouring the speed riders and again it proved to the case and it is the flat nature of this course that allows that to happen however other courses in the Series now in its 13th year balance this race.
The first of 9 punctures went to Chanel Masson Army CU; after 19 miles Nicola Juniper Les Filles RT attempted to get away but was brought back. Anna Christian Scott Contessa had punctured but after a long chase got back on. 38 miles covered and Manon Lloyd Abergavenny RC attacked but again the sprinters team were not allowing escapes and she was caught. 2 miles later a crash brought down at least 5 riders with a broken frame the main result.
Ellie Gilham VC St Raphael and Sophie Faulkner Squadra Donne/Shutt VR both tried attacking but were not allowed any leeway. It was obvious that a sprint was looming and with the bulk of the field still in contention it was hoped that it would be a smooth dash to the finish line.
Thankfully the race had no further interruptions and it was Hannah Barnes who led the race over the line with a good margin over fellow fast finishers 2nd place Harriet Owen Matrix Fitness Racing Academy with fellow team mate Hannah Walker in 3rd.
