A heavy cloudburst just before the racing got underway failed to deter the 190 hardy competitors who turned up at the NSC last Tuesday night for round 15 of Team Royal London 360 Isle of Man’s youth league. Fortunately, there were no further downpours and the track dried sufficiently for all eleven races on the programme to be run in surprisingly good conditions.

The novices were the first to test out the damp track, with Tiana Kelly riding away from the field to score a fine solo victory. Chloe Hampson led sister Caitlyn over the line to grab second and Aaron Kinvig came in on his own for a solid fourth. Leon Murphy pipped Ryan Batty and Talia Jackson in the dash for fifth, with Archie Mulholland a safe eighth ahead of Hugo Howland-Smith, who beat Emily Rewison in the tussle for ninth. Megan Callin and Lula Kinnish rounded off the top twelve leader board.

In the born 2008 & later age group Fearne Bregazzi picked up her maiden win of the series, attacking from the gun to take the chequered flag with a clear advantage over chasers Alec Sorby and T.J.Teare in second and third places respectively. George Kinnish was a lonely fourth and Nicole Delooze kept Edward Field, Charlotte Geldart and Freddie Griffin at bay to claim fifth.

Finneley Richards and the ever improving Poppy Bregazzi completed the top ten.

Cian Howard dropped breakaway companion Orry Lund on the final lap to record his eleventh success in the born 2007 category. Florence Griffin outpaced Jemma Quayle to take the girls’ honours in third spot and Charlie Scarffe maintained a safe fifth throughout the race. Rio Kelly edged out Ellana Skillan for sixth, while a little further down the order Izzy Craig just got the better of Owen Pilley in a closely contested scrap for 11th spot.

Four riders escaped on the opening lap of the 2006 event and stayed away to the finish. Cian Jackson eventually took the win ahead of Zachary Dowson with Harry Corkish and Drystan Sewell a close third and fourth. Ivan Sorby got clear of Logan Glover and leading girl Rebecca Cooil on the final circuit to claim fifth, with Harry Price, Thomas Reed and Tom Darnill coming in together to wrap up the top ten.

Harry Kneen had the edge on fellow frontrunners Mairi Harrison, Oliver Sykes and Oscar Lace in the sprint at the end of the born 2005 race. Tyler Annis broke free from Harry Boyle and Frank Kinnish to snatch fifth and Ella Griffin left Callum Salisbury in her wake to bag eighth. Newcomer Thomas Kellgallo was a good tenth.

In the born 2004 class Dillon Dowson outgunned Ben Boyle, Ralf Holden and Cameron Dudley in the final gallop for the line. Nathan Slack beat top girl Kiera Prentice in the fight for fifth and James Devereau was too strong for Megan Boardman, Annabel Corkill and Amy Quayle in the rush for seventh.

Bouncing back from his defeat in the three previous rounds, Percy Hampton outsprinted Jonty Bregazzi, Zac Walker, Jack Christian and Matthew Cooil to collect maximum points in the born 2003 three lapper. Matthew Black was just behind in sixth spot and Emily Kinley was the first girl in tenth position.

Aaron Lund came from behind to beat James Harrison, Kaitlin Slack and Corrin Leeming in the dart for the top slot in the born 2002 & earlier grouping. Best girl Shellan Leeming lost contact with the leading quartet on the last lap but hung on to salvage fifth ahead of Ciara Sowerby, Kyle Batty and the fast finishing Libbie Christian.

Securing his second win of the night, Percy Hampton overcame Zac Walker, Jonty Bregazzi, Matthew Black and Dillon Dowson in the final charge for the flag in the under 10 racing bikes. Ralf Holden was just behind in seventh place and Nathan Slack outdid Cameron Dudley and Jack Christian in the scamper for eighth. Kiera Prentice, Mairi Harrison and Mia Warren were the first three girls in 13th, 14th and 19th positions.

A large group of fourteen riders circulated together at the head of the under 12 racing bikes. At the finish Tosh Teare took the sprint from Charlie Gibson, Max Walker, Adam Scarffe and Conor Gelling. The hard working Emily Bridson was the leading girl in a very good sixth place.

Matthew Bostock won the under 16’s race, taking the six-strong final gallop by the narrowest of margins from Nathan Draper and Owen Dudley. Joseph Haddock was fourth, Conor Davies fifth and Nathan Hinks sixth. Davies made several attempts to get away on his own but was reeled in each time by his vigilant companions. William Draper and Thomas Bostock were seventh and eighth, with Daniel Scarffe working his way through the field for a well earned ninth, one place ahead of top girl Phoebe Ferguson.
