Report: Third fastest 50 Ever for Bottrill

National 50 mile champion Matt Bottrill (Drag2Zero) wins the BDCA 50 with the third fastest time ever recorded for the distance in British time trialling!

National 50 mile Champion, Matthew Bottril (www.drag2zero.com) was in fine form over the weekend. Riding in the BDCA 50 mile time trial, based at Etwall, Derbyshire, 120 riders would take part in the test themselves against the clock.

With warm weather but some high winds gusting, it was going to be a hard test on the roads, but it would be a really test of pacing and judgement. Off at number 80, Bottrill, selected his finest, cycling components, Giant Trinity SL advance time trial bike powered by Sram components, Smart Enve 8.9 front wheel, D2Z disk, Smart skinsuit and finished off with Bont Kronos, Bottrill came on a mission to set a new personal best!

Leaving the start at 15:20, and soon hitting speeds of 30mph, into the headwind first section, Bottrill was cutting through the air and reached the half way point in a time of 51:06, But with the fastest section to come, it was going to be a fast time. Adapting his best aero position, Bottrill was flying through the field, catching his rivals.

Hitting a top speed of 41mph and covering the last 25 miles in a time of 45:39, Bottrill stopped the clock in an incredible 01:36:45 a new personal best, course recorded and the 3rd fastest 50 mile time trial every produced in the UK.

Asked about his winning performance Bottrill replied “I came here after a three weeks of not really much training, but felt really refreshed today. While I was still a little way of my best form, to produce a ride like this, just proves how far I have come along this season. The equipment has played a big part in this and I’m looking forward to improving my fitness for the final part of the season”
