Olympic Gold medalist Steven Burke and team-mate Owain Doull assumed an early lead in the Revolution Series Elite Championship for the Telegraph All Stars in Manchester.

The National Cycling Centre, home to world class track cycling, was packed to the rafters and featured loads of great action.

An expanded five-round competition, which involves three rounds in Manchester, one in Glasgow and a finale in London kicked off in front of a sell-out crowd at the National Cycling Centre.

A mixture of world-class women and men riders – both endurance and elite – provided a huge variety of action with Laura Trott, Dani King, Jo Rowsell and Elinor Barker all riding for Wiggle-Honda while Hannah Barnes, Jess Varnish and Becky James all took part.

Another Team GB Olympic hero Jason Kenny was on top form in the sprints, while Varnish brought one of the biggest cheers of the night by winning the UCI Sprint. For the first time in the history of the Revolution Series UCI points were up for grabs along with points in the Elite Championship.

Spot the winner! Jason Kenny celebrates a win in the Men’s Keirin.

In the HOY Future Stars, Sophie Capewell (HMT-Sportscover) was the strongest individual rider with an impressive 78 points. Joe Truman (Rapha Condor JLT) leads the Boys’ competition with 80 points.

Riding for the newest team in the competition, the Telegraph All Stars, Burke and Doull proved the strongest pairing in a high-class field of riders with Team Sky, Madison Genesis and Rapha Condor JLT all represented.

Revolution Series’ media partnership with The Telegraph and London Bike Show also kicked off, with a live blog on the The Telegraph sport website keeping those fans who couldn’t attend up-to-date.

Earlier in the day, during the afternoon session, a mixture of UCI racing and one Elite Championship event – the Flying Lap – kept the crowd entertained.

Joey Walker, son of Chris Walker (former pro and British champion) on the attack in the Future Stars races.

King won the Points Race, beating Anastasia Chulkova into second place with support from her Wiggle Honda team-mates Trott, Rowsell and Barker. Ed Clancy (Rapha Condor JLT) began the new series as he ended the last – with victory in the Flying Lap in 13.358secs – the first Elite Championship event of the day came in the last race of the afternoon session.

Luke Rowe took an impressive victory in the Elimination Race in the evening – before a massive cheer went up when Varnish won that UCI Sprint Final, beating compatriot James into second.

Clancy served up yet another victory in an enthralling UCI Scratch Race – the final Elite Championship event of the night. Full race results and a more detailed race report will be available soon.

It was another high quality dose of world-class track cycling from the Revolution Series. See you in Glasgow for Round 2 on Saturday 30th November …
