News: 49th Perfs Pedal Cancelled

Due to more heavy rain again today and the forecast of more rain and high winds over the weekend, the organiser as very reluctantly decided to cancel this year’s Perfs.Â

From the organiser …Â Due to more heavy rain again today and the forecast of more rain and high winds over the weekend I have very reluctantly decided to cancel this year’s Perfs.Â My main priority is rider safety and on my drive around the revisedÂ course today – Thursday – Â there is an unacceptable amount of surface water which cannot drain away as the ditches and fields are full.Â Riders will have their entry fee refunded ASAP but please allow me time to collect bank details and action refunds.

Police permission is in place to use the Portsdown Hill Circuit. The Newtown Circuit which was last used in 2011 is a back up course in case of any problems. Race distance is 74KM with the finish the sixth time up the climb as usual.

UK Youth supplied the winner in 2012 with Chris Opie and this years winner was Marcin Bialoblocki who won on his own with a super ride in the worst conditions for over a decade. With UK Youth now disbanded, the race provides an opportunity for the new and existing teams to get some early results on the board.

There are two changes for 2014: from December 16th, you will be able to enter online at the BC Website. Postal entries will still be accepted. Entries close on January 20th 2014.

The race will also see BC Accredited Marshals used for the first time in conjunction with the usual NEG to help ensure a safe race. We hope to avoid the problems caused this year by inconsiderate parking at the finish that affected riders safety when finishing. The finish area will be Marshaled, spectators and helpers will need to allow more time when arriving for the finish.

There will be NO PARKING at the finish or for several hundred metres past the finish.
