News: The Ripon Tour Sportive

Velo29 have added a new and very exciting Sportive to their 2014 calendar, The Ripon Tour Sportive.

RST Cycle Clothing & Trigon Bikes

They have three big Sportives now, an Elite Crit and Premier Calendar Race commented Richard Williamson, event director. “It was fitting that we did something special to celebrate the coming of le Tour to Yorkshire which are our home roads so when we got the invite from Ripon to do the event, it was an immediate YES!”

The new Sportive will take place on the 13th July, departing from Ripon Race Course. Already in the City that weekend, the established Ripon Triathlon is taking place and we are sharing the HQ with them which means we can enjoy the camping and celebrations already there.”

Day 1 of the Tour starts in Leeds and heads North towards the climbs of Kidstones, the Buttertubs and Robin Cross, we cut out the first few km’s to avoid the busy Leeds roads and head out from Ripon through Nidderdale. We’ve got permission to ride through Studley Park which takes us to Brimham Rocks, the entire route is in great scenery on some amazing roads.

There are 2 route options, 102 miles and 44 miles. The shorter has a stinker of a climb from Lofthouse in Nidderdale, the 102m has four KOM sections, all timed by Strava in the event.

There’s a great new website and entries are already open. We are expecting 1,500 riders for this one, we plan to make it an annual celebration of the Yorkshire Grand Depart, we hope riders from all over the UK will come to Yorkshire and enjoy our roads and this amazing occasion.
