Shaun says that some of the riders have competed for over 40 years and that the team has no specific discipline with riders competing in road, time trials, cyclo-cross and MTB races

What has been the highlight of 2013 for the team?
Shaun: The highlight tends to be our team training camp in Majorca in March; great weather, great company, and plenty of training miles.

Which race has been the best one (most fun) to do?
Shaun: None in particular. We enjoy most races as our team is all about enjoyment and we know that leads to good results

Do you coach yourself or have a coach to help structure your training?
Shaun: A couple of the riders have external coaches but most of the team set their own programme or take advice from senior team riders.

How many hours a week do riders train on and off the bike?
Shaun: This varies depending on rider’s work commitments, but an average is about 8/10 hours on the bike with 1/2 hours gym work

Do they tend to train alone or in a chain gang?
Shaun: A mixture of both. We have a team training ride on a Tuesday evening from April to September & also have a winter training ride on a Saturday through out the off season.

Do you work full time/part time?
Shaun: The majority of the team work full time and a few are full time students

What is the best thing about racing bikes?
Shaun: Being part of a team

And what is the one thing you enjoy least?
Shaun: Training in the cold and wet

If you could change one of your team’s weaknesses into a strength, which one would it be?
Shaun: We tend to have a bias on TT riders and need some more strength in road races

What type of bike do you ride and what type of groupset/wheels does it have?
Shaun: A mixture, but quite a few of us ride Scott bikes with various groupsets

Are you ‘geeky’ when it comes to the equipment on the bike?
Shaun: Yes, most of the team like to analyse training/race data & virtually all riders race on deep sections

What will you be doing training wise during the winter?
Shaun: The majority of the team attend Saturday’s long training ride, then the riders have their own programmes for the rest of the week

Will you race at all in the winter?
Shaun: Yes, a few of the riders compete in the cyclo-cross events

Do you have specific winter training bikes — mudguards or none?
Shaun: Our rule for winter rides is full mudguards so virtually all the riders have specific winter bikes

Do you try and get away from the weather here and go abroad for a winter training camp?
Shaun: Yes we fly to Majorca for a one week training camp in March, with 16 of us attending in 2014

When do you expect to start racing in 2014?
Shaun: March / April

What are the races you are looking forward to most in 2014?
Shaun: National TT events, Divisional Championships, Tour of the Abberleys LVRC stage race & the local mountain time trials
