Team News – Briggs & Moses Stand Out

The in-form Rapha Condor JLT duo helped force the decisive nine-man split that decided the overall race, when Briggs had powered ahead of a wind-ravaged peloton at the summit of the first climb of the day, on stage one.

The pair looked to have the race under control coming in to the finish of the stage, following a huge effort from Moses to prepare the sprint for Briggs, only for a mechanical issue to take Briggs out of contention with just 500m to go.

A disappointed Briggs commented after the finish, “I knew the finish and I felt really good coming in to the sprint. Tom had already attacked over the climb, putting me in the perfect position as the others had all had to chase pretty hard to bring him back.”

“Tom had started to lead out the sprint and I had a problem with my chain and so I lost touch with the group and it was too late. It was pretty disappointing as everyone did everything perfectly in the team today.”

On the second stage, Moses was once again animating the race, attacking with just over twenty kilometres to the finish, and pulling out a 30 second lead coming in to the last lap.

Unfortunately for Moses, who started the stage in 5th place, just 18 seconds down on the overall lead, strong winds on the exposed course put paid to his chances of another solo success, and he was reeled in at the summit of the final climb.

The team continues its busy schedule of racing this week at the Tour de Loire et Cher in France, where they will no doubt be looking to add to their list of international successes in 2014.
