Report – RL360 Isle of Man’s Youth League Round 2
(by Dot Tilbury)

In the novices class Hugo Howland-Smith went from the gun, taking the chequered flag well clear of Alfie Tummon, who outsprinted Daniel Matthews and Jayjay Plowman for the runners-up spot. Harry Wilson beat Herbie Hampton-France to the line for fifth place and leading girl Emily Cowell overtook Bernat Munoz-Fite to grab seventh. Abigail Cowell and Harvey Pitts completed the top ten.

For the second week in succession Eddie Dillon rode away from the field to bag maximum points in the born 2009 & later age group. Jarno Davidson was a safe second and Callum Christian pipped Cameron Hounsell in the bunch sprint for third. Zach Jones and Archie Mulholland rounded off the top six, with Florrie Thomas the first girl home in 14th position.

Alec Sorby broke away in the early stages of the born 2008 category and stayed clear to the finish. Myles Le Geyt chased hard but in the end had to settle for second place ahead of top girl Fearne Bregazzi who edged out Freddie Griffin in the battle for third. Samuel Corkill led Ryan Nelson and Deaglan Blake in for fifth and the fast finishing Joel Long came from behind to pip George Kennish and Ethan Skillicorn for eighth. Tiana Kelly and Summer Peters were the second and third girls in 11th and 13th respectively.

In the born 2007 event Cian Howard took the honours in a close tussle with Isaac Batty and Orry Lund. The impressive Florence Griffin passed Charlie Scarffe on the last lap to claim fourth and Jordan Carter outgunned Rio Kelly in the dash for sixth. Jemma Quayle rode clear of Ben Davies to take eighth, while Olivia Quayle held off a six-strong chasing group to secure the final place on the top ten leader board.

Cian Jackson set off at a fast pace in the born 2006 class and was never caught. Ivan Sorby had the edge on Owen Collins and Drystan Sewell in the gallop for second, with Corey Peters trailing in on his own for fifth. Conor Moughtin was too strong for Samuel Devereau, Jenson Artus and Rebecca Cooil in the final rush for sixth.

Leaving the rest of the field in his wake to fight over the minor placings, Niall Colquitt led from start to finish in the born 2005 race. Harry Kneen headed Mairi Harrison over the line for second and Chloe Dillon led a splintered chasing bunch home for fourth. Tyler Annis was fifth and Thomas Kilgour sixth.

An early attack from Zac Walker was rewarded with a comfortable solo victory in the born 2004 class. Ben Boyle ousted James Devereau, Nathan Slack, Kiera Prentice and Megan Boardman in the scrap for second, while Toby Craig got the better of travelling companion Amy Quayle in the fight for seventh.

Percy Hampton escaped from a leading group of five riders to grab the victory in the born 2003 & earlier grouping. Jonty Bregazzi outsprinted Juan Kneen, Matthew Cooil and Corrin Leeming for second, with Tyler Hannay outpacing Shellan Leeming to make up the top six.

The three racing bike classes brought the evening to an exciting close. In the under 10’s Zac Walker powered to another fine solo victory, taking the chequered flag well clear of Niall Colquitt, who outsprinted Ralf Holden, Nathan Slack, James Devereau, Cameron Dudley and Mairi Harrison for second. Cian Jackson was the best under 8 rider in a very good eighth place.

Percy Hampton spearheaded a leading group of six riders over the line to win the under 12’s six lapper. Aaron Lund and James Harrison were second and third, followed by Corrin Leeming, Will Corkill and Jack Christian. The girls’ prize went to Charlie Moss in seventh spot.

In the under 16’s race Owen Dudley outsprinted breakaway partner Conor Davies for the victory. Jimmy Bostock beat fellow chasers Will Draper and Michael Moss to the flag for third, with early breakaway man Dan Scarffe a good sixth. Kaitlin Slack was the leading girl in ninth position.
