Evan Oliphant of Team Raleigh solos to victory in the Scottish Road Race Championships

Result – Scottish RR Champs
The Scottish Champs returned to Alford in Aberdeenshire on Sunday for the second time, after being there in 2013.
More than 50 men signed on for the Men’s event which covered 87-miles on the testing Alford-Insch-Rynie circuit. The speed was high from the start and a strong breeze meant it would be a tough day for all concerned.
James McCallum, NFTO, animated the race throughout and ultimately it was only fellow professional rider Evan Oliphant who was able to overhaul him on the notorious Suie hill, four miles from the finish in Alford. Evan was able to solo to victory eight seconds ahead of James and Steven Lawley (The Rigmar Racers), who produced an excellent performance to round out the top three.
In the women’s race a diappointingly small field of just 13 women took to the start line. Jane Barr (Velocity 44) and Julie Erskine (Velosport-Pasta Montegrappa) had flown in to Aberdeen an hour earlier after racing in Belgium the day before.
The jet-setting duo set about attacking the 54-mile course from the start and it was Jane – representing the promoting club – who managed to distance herself from Julie and two other riders to win in dominant fashion, from Julie and Genevieve Whitson (WV Avanti).
