Report – Mid Shropshire Wheelers 10 (thanks Dave)

A sunny but with a troublesome return leg headwind were the weather conditions that met the riders for the annual Mid Shropshire Wheelers 10 Mile Time Trial and the Liverpool District Regional Final for the Cycling Time Trials GHS Championship held on the Cold Hatton to Shawbirch A442 course.

The GHS youngsters were off first and a scorching time was set by 16 year old George Evans with a tremendous time of 21:40 for a personal best which would have been good enough for 2nd place in the senior event. It was never in doubt that Mid Shropshire Wheelers would sweep the board in this youth category and we wish all the qualifiers well for the GHS National Championship in September.

We are happy to report that James Elmore and Father Rob are well after being involved in a car crash on the way to the event, luckily a written off car is the only damage. A wildcard for the final will be sought for this young rider along with Hetty Niblett and Ewan Grivell-Mellor away on Youth School Games qualification events.

The big battle of the day in the senior event, won by David Williams, Fibrax-Wrexham in 21:34 was the team battle between host club Mid Shropshire Wheelers and home course team of Wrekinsport CC. Wrekinsport just edged it on the day with a combined time for 3 riders of 1:08:42 with MSW stopping the clock in 1:09:52 but with the knowledge that if the young guns from the GHS event were included the win would have been theirs.

Mid Shropshire Wheelers took all the other awards with Tony Harvey 3rd overall, 1st Veteran on actual time and standard adjusted time, Jenny York 1st Woman and Jimmy Kershaw 1st Junior.
