Track Worlds – No Medals for GB on Day 3

After the celebrations on day 2 with the two Silver medals, the GB team left the track at the end of Day 3 with no medals after the Women’s Pursuit, Men’s Kilo and Men’s Points.

Joanna Rowsell came the closest in the Women’s Individual Pursuit on Friday. The 26-year-old defending champion, who won silver on Thursday in the Team Pursuit, made the final for the Bronze medal but yet again, the Aussies got in her way with Amy Cure third and Rowsell fourth.

Rowsell said afterwards “You’re never really going to be happy with fourth, but you can see that across the board everyone has stepped up. Everyone was down about yesterday (after the team pursuit defeat), but I came out today and I was determined to fight”.

“Last year I was absolutely flying and it went perfectly. This year has been a real battle.” Scotland’s Katie Archibald was fifth whilst the Gold went to Australia’s Rebecca Wiasak and the silver to American Jennifer Valente.

In the Women’s Sprint, Jess Varnish was 8th after beating Australian Olympic champion Anna Meares in the 1/8th finals but was then beaten in the Quarter finals by Aussie Stephanie Morton. Victoria Williamson qualified in 11th and beat Monique Sullivan of Canada before going out in the next round.
