News – Alex Peters leads at Normandy
The Saturday stage in the Tour of Normandy was a lively stage ridden in rain, cold and wind throughout the 170 km. The breakaway of the day survived the chase from behind with Bjørn Tore Nilsen Hoem (Team Joker) winning from Britain’s Alex Peters (SEG Racing) who took the overall lead.

The stage was expected to be a key one and did not fail to see big changes to the GC. After a sunny start, the rain returned as did the wind which blew the race into echelons along the exposed roads making it a daunting day for many a rider.
It was from the start that the race was decided. Indeed, in, the first kilometers, seven men got away, Rasmus Mygind (Riwal Platform Cycling Team), Alexis Carlin (VC Rouen 76), Przemyslaw Kasperkiewicz (AWT Greenway), Davy Gunst (SEG Racing), Bjørn Tore Nilsen Hoem (Team Joker), Tim Vanspeybroeck (Team 3M) and Kobus Hereijgers (Cycling Team De Rijke).

The peloton gave the break some leeway, almost four minutes, before the team of race leader Dimitri Claeys (Verandas Willems) positioned itself at the head of the peloton. The gap came down to around 2 minutes before getting going back out to almost five minutes around 85k mark.
On the finishing loops however, two riders joined the leaders, Alex Peters (SEG Racing) and Gertjan De Vos (Team 3M). Over the last lap of 15 km, three riders were left holding off the peloton with a gap of 30″. Working together, they succeeded in their struggle against the peloton to win the day and fight for the yellow jersey!
Despite going off course, crashing as well apparently 500m from the finish, the leading trio continued their battle for the victory with the fastest being Norwegian Bjørn Tore Nilsen Hoem (Team Joker) ahead of Alex Peters. Tom Scully came in 11 seconds down in third.
