News – Medway Velo Time Trial

To celebrate the rise in women taking part in competitive cycling the Medway Velo has announced an equal prize fund for both genders at their upcoming time trial. Taking place at 3pm on The Isle of Grain, Kent the event boast a solo, tandem and 2-up 10 mile time trial.

In the solo event there will be prizes for the fastest five men and women on time trial bikes with a separate fund for the fastest five men and women on road bikes (with no aero bars or deep section wheels). There will also be an award for best result on a fixed gear bike. Lots of other prizes including arm warmers, socks and jerseys will be awarded at the event which is also a South East Women’s Time Trial Series counting event.

Event organiser Sally Smith said: ‘It was important to me as a competitive female cyclist that the ladies were given the same recognition as the men. There may be fewer women competing than the men, however their efforts and sacrifices are just as great and they should not be penalized for turning out and representing.

‘I’d love to see some more entries from the ladies, so please get in touch and take part.’
