Report – Isle of Man’s Youth League

Team RL360 Isle of Man’s Tuesday Night Youth League Round 8

A total of 303 competitors turned out at the NSC last Tuesday night for round eight of Team RL360 Isle of Man’s youth league.

In the novices class Abigail Cowell slipped away from the field to notch up her second successive win. Norah Ellis was a solid second and Evie Wright pipped Liberty Delooze for third. Joel Prentice edged out Tyler Oakley-Cowie for fifth and Abbie Jones beat George Lee, Isla Dickaty, Abi Cullington and Jessica Sherwin in the race for seventh. Erin Morgan led the rest of the large field home to secure 12th.

Brad Le Geyt held off five breakaway companions to bag maximum points for the sixth time in the born 2010 & later category. Kylan Murphy was a close second, with Daniel Minay grabbing third ahead of Joshua Cross, Archie Mulholland and Stanley Kinnish in fourth to sixth respectively. Samuel Dowson, Harrison Skillan, Hugh Osborn and top girl Amelie Geldart completed the top ten.

Eddie Dillon rode away from fellow frontrunner Cameron Hounsell to win the born 2009 event and retain his unbeaten record. Jake Jones and Sean Crone trailed in separately for third and fourth, while best girl Abi Clayton broke free from Thomas Pickavance to claim fifth. Cillian Sharkey ousted Matthew Hooper, Max Davies, and Thomas Radcliffe in the sprint for seventh, with the fast finishing Joseph Barker coming through the field to snatch 11th from Jarno Davidson, Zach Jones and Grace Wolstencroft.

In the born 2008 race Myles Le Geyt outsprinted T.J.Teare, Alec Sorby and Freddie Griffin for the top slot. Fearne Bregazzi headed George Kinnish over the line for fifth and Oliver Cooper eased away from Edward Field and Charlotte Geldart to grab seventh. Leon Murphy overtook Bob Radcliffe in the closing stages to grab the remaining place on the top ten leader board.

A last lap attack gave Cian Howard a clear victory over Orry Lund in the born 2007 class. Charlie Scarffe got the better of Rio Kelly in the battle for third and Florence Griffin clipped off the front of the main chasing group to take the girls’ prize in fifth place. James Kinrade was sixth and Ben Davies kept Cory Corkhill at bay for seventh. Jemma Quayle and Harry Ellis wrapped up the top ten, while a little further down the field French visitor Julia Chambon finished a respectable 18th

Owen Collins was too strong for Ivan Sorby and Drystan Sewell in the final gallop for the born 2006 honours. Nicola Quaye was a safe fourth and Zachary Dowson eased away from Tom Caine to seize fifth. Harry Callin maintained a stable seventh throughout and Jack Christian got the verdict over Rebecca Cooil and Nathan Kinrade in the bunch sprint for eighth.

Five riders contested the finish of the born 2005 three lapper with Tyler Annis leading the charge ahead Frank Kinnish, Oliver Corkish, James Scott and Mairi Harrison. Callum Salisbury lost contact with the leaders on the final circuit, finishing a clear sixth ahead of the all-girl chasing trio of Chloe Dillon, Ella Griffin and Lena Coole.

Tyler Hannay went from the gun in the born 2004 & earlier grouping and was never challenged. Matthew Black and Nathan Slack snapped up second and third in the chasing group sprint with Shellan Leeming the first girl in sixth spot.

In the under 10 racing bikes Niall Colquitt had to fend off a strong challenge from Owen Collins before nailing his fifth win of the series. Drystan Sewell was a good third and Ivan Sorby did well to hold off Cian Jackson and Cian Howard in the tussle for fourth. Tyler Annis and Frank Kinnish came in separately for seventh and eighth, with Oliver Corkish spearheading the bunch sprint for ninth.

The first few laps of the under 12 racing bikes were run at a pedestrian pace as the leading six riders seemed content to wait for the final sprint, which Tyler Hannay won. Matthew Cooil was second followed by Zac Walker, Tom Skillicorn and Jack Christian. The girls’ award went to Darcy Cain in 12th spot.

In the contrast the under 16 racing bikes event was fast and furious from the start. Conor Davies dropped breakaway partner Thomas Bostock at two thirds distance and powered away to a fine solo victory. Bostock was a safe second and Lucas Mudie produced one of the best rides of the night, escaping from the chasing bunch to take third. Tosh Teare ousted Ben Christian and leading girl Tara Ferguson in the bunch gallop for fourth.
