News – Matt Bottrill Wins Ratae RC 10

Matt writes … Well, it’s been a week now since a lost my title in the National 25. Normally after a National, I’m pretty spent and need a few day’s to recover but this week has been very different and I’ve been in over drive mode.

A lot of stuff happened in the 25 that was out of my control. But for me I want to do everything I can before I go in the National 10 then I’m off to Denmark, to do the amateur worlds.

I’m really looking forward to theses races so want to arrive in great shape for them so will do everything I can with the time I have left to prepare.

This week I also tried my first open water swim, at Market Bosworth, Water Park. I’ve not swam in three years! So it might have been more sensible to have gone to the pool. But I went straight into the open water to prove to myself I could do it. So on went the wetsuit and I’d love to say I swam away like a fish!

But people watching from the embankment probably thought I was drowning with the amount of splashing going off. But this is what makes it all exciting having to learn new challenges. I managed a full 800 meters and had to stop every 100 just to get my breath! I fealt liked I’d ridden a 10 mile time by the end!

I’ve made it very clear my intentions for 2016 so this was my first step getting there but first I want to finish 2015 on a high!
On Saturday, I took part in the Ratae RC 10 where my legs where pretty shot before the start but once I started my warm up they came back around.

The race went well on the course based in six hills, which takes in four sharpe turns which really kill the speed but I clocked 19:23 which I was pleased with. I think that’s about my 18th win of the season so always nice to notch another one.

I have a few weekend’s off racing now until my next race but will be hitting the training full gas. So until the next one keep #smashingitup
