Feature: Rebecca Durrell Q & A

Rebecca Durrell

1. When will you start your road season and what will be the first race?
Rebecca: It starts in early March at Le Samyn, a UCI 1.2 in Belgium.

2. What races will be your targets for 2016 and why?
Rebecca: I’m excited to be targeting UCI races with the team now that we have UCI status. It’s a big step up but we are chomping at the bit to get stuck in. I’m also aiming to race well in the National Road Championships in Stockton. Last year’s race in Lincoln was a great experience and this year’s race is on a course close where I grew up!

3. How will you spend the time on the bike between now and your first race in training? Long miles or cutting back to do top end efforts?
Rebecca: A mix of both.

4. What was your favourite Xmas present?
Rebecca: I love everything I got so can’t pick a favourite – Santa did very well this year ;-) My new snuggly cycling jacket and a pair of furry slipper socks have probably been the most useful so far though!

5. When it rains, which its doing a lot right now, is it turbo time or wrap up and get wet?
Rebecca: Wrap up and get wet for sure! I hate the turbo so save it for special occasions like icy roads and howling winds. I find staying dry pretty much impossible so I focus on keeping warm instead. Using disposable toe warmers in my shoes, wrapping my feet in plastic bags (uncool but it works!) and frequently snacking does the job.

6. If you could do any race in the world including the best ones in the world etc, what would it be and why?
Rebecca: The world championships road race. Representing your country against the best riders in the world trying to win the rainbow jersey – what’s not to like about that!

7. What piece of food can you not do without where ever you are on the road during the season!
Rebecca: Fig rolls.

8. What is your favourite music track when warming up for a race or on the turbo?
Rebecca: Go by The Chemical Brothers.

9. If given the option, would you prefer normal brakes or disc brakes on your road bike?
Rebecca: Normal.

10. What’s the spec of your race bike for 2016 and your favourite bits on it?
Rebecca: I haven’t got my mitts on it yet so that’s a tough question – but I can tell you it’s a very cool Trek Emonda in a gorgeous turquoise colour!

11. What’s the best thing you like about your new kit from Santini/Prendas and which item is your favourite?
Rebecca: I can honestly vouch that all of the Santini/Prendas kit that we’ve been given is top notch. It’s by far the highest quality, best fitting and stylish looking kit I’ve worn to date! My favourite piece? The jersey. It’s sleek, a great design and I feel fast as soon as I’ve pulled it on. If you feel fast, you go fast!
