Feature – Pete Kibble Q & A

1. When will you start your road season and what will be the first race?
Pete: my road season will start at the Betty Pharaoh road race in South Wales as this race usually attracts a good field. I started my season off last year with this race as well where I won the 3rd cat race however this year I will be racing the E, 1, 2 race. I’ll also get my legs up to speed with some early season TT’s.

2. What races will be your targets for 2016 and why?
Pete: My targets for the 2016 season lie in stage races. These will be the Junior tour of the Mendips, Junior Tour of Ireland and the biggest goal of all the Junior Tour of Wales.

3. How will you spend the time on the bike between now and your first race in training?
Pete: I spend four days a week on the road and two days of the week on the track during the winter. I also do some roller work for shorter style efforts or recovery days. I’m lucky to have access to Newport velodrome through Welsh Cycling which is really helpful for harder intensity training.

4. What was your favourite Xmas present?
Pete: My favourite Christmas present has to be my new TT bike, a Giant Trinity Advanced that’s currently being built up. I can’t wait for the better weather to come and races to get my leg over it.

5. When it rains, which its doing a lot right now, is it turbo time or wrap up and get wet?
Pete: I try and brave the bad weather as much as I can, however, I have to admit I’ve chickened out and jumped on the turbo a fair few times this winter.

6. If you could do any race in the world including the best ones in the world etc, what would it be and why?
Pete: The race I’d most like to compete in is definitely the Tour de France. It’s my ultimate goal as a cyclist and has always captivated me.

7. What piece of food can you not do without where ever you are on the road during the season!
Pete: The food I cannot do with out is Nutri-Grain bars, I will always have at least one of these stashed in a kit bag wherever I go.

8. What is your favourite music track when warming up for a race or on the turbo?
Pete: my favourite songs that gets me up for racing have to be Flux Pavilion – I can’t stop and flume hyper paradise.

9. If given the option, would you prefer normal brakes or disc brakes on your road bike?
Pete: I feel that there is no need for disc brakes in road racing at the moment. I know technology has to move forward but I think it is unnecessary and will case more harm than good.

10. What’s the spec of your race bike for 2016 and your favourite bits on it?
Pete: My 2016 race bike is provided by Velocity Globalbike. It is a Lapierre aircode with a mix of Ultegra and Dura-Ace mechanical groupset. I will be running a Zipp cockpit a – 17-120 stem and 40mm bars. It will have Fulcrum racing zero carbon wheels on for most races and finished off with a Fizik Arione White saddle and tape.
