1-2-3  for One Pro as they dominate stage 1 of the Tour of Reservoir

Result: Tour of the Reservoir (mens)

On a day when even the leading riders were so shattered afterwards, they needed time to recover before even talking, it was three riders from One Pro Cycling on their Boardman bikes who dominated the race and look to have sewn up the GC with a stage to go.

Crossing the line together, hands aloft, Karol Domagalski was first across, just, to to take the yellow jersey just ahead of Polish compatriot Kamil Gradek with Tom Stewart in third.

It isn’t just the result for One Pro that shows what a tough stage this was but the time gaps and the splits all the way back to the last rider over half an hour down. It was, as many have been saying, grim, and that’s despite the weather being warm and sunny.

That may well have been part of the reason; riders over heating in the extremely windy conditions which literally blew the race apart after three laps of the Derwent Reservoir.

Here’s a look at the race in photos

First sighting of the race was Scott Davies spinning a tiny gear waiting for the peloton after a spell off the front alone.

There was a crash in the peloton behind him, with a lot of riders hitting the deck and even more held up. The chase was on then for many and at the front the peloton was still together with half a dozen groups behind already losing many minutes.

Almost a lap later and a three up break led by One Pro’s Hayden McCormick  from Max Stedman and Dillion Bryne

Behind, Tom Moses was on the front leading the chase, something he seemed to do all race …

Next look at the race and a new break was leading, led here by RAS winner James Gullen

Scotland’s John Archibald led the chase behind

The race changed again the next lap with Karol Domgalski leading a three up move with Joe Fry and Scott Davies.

A chase group was by now closing in and One Pro had numbers in it ….

The peloton was now lined out, behind Edmund Bradbury chasing the front of the race.

Behind, the race was in pieces.

Too many groups to photography but this was the second peloton …

Another lap, two to go now, and five riders led the race with Joe Fry the only non One Pro rider in it and the gap back to a lone chaser was two minutes ….

James Knox was that lone chaser…

Meanwhile, Tom Moses was still leading the chase …

Lap to go and Karol Domgalski leads the five riders to hear the bell

… And Tom Moses was still leading the chase….

Meanwhile, a long way back, just ahead of the second peloton, Russ Downing is heading for his last lap

The peloton not bothered by now with their race well and truly run. Time to think about the next stage and save the legs.

The sprint for fourth is won by Dexter Gardias from Ian Bibby
