Bauke Mollema, Giulio Ciccone and Vincenzo Nibali to look for opportunities for their team Trek Segafredo in the 2021 Giro d’Italia
Giro 2021: Mollema, Ciccone and Nibali Reactions
Mollema, Ciccone and Nibali to look for opportunties for their team Trek Segafredo –
Bauke Mollema says of the Giro 2021 “In the first week I can sharpen my top form, and in the last two weeks I look for my opportunities”, says Mollema.
“I have always enjoyed the Giro, even if it was not often part of my program. When I rode there, I drove well and very recently, with a top 5 in 2019. That is why I am happy to return ”, says Mollema.
“The Giro is always a tough race with a great atmosphere. The riders’ stamina is tested, physically and mentally. There are no easy days and if you challenge for the pink jersey, you cannot be weak for a moment. ”
Mollema will not be the only rider to take on the responsibility of success for Trek-Segafredo. “The fact that we are at the start with Vincenzo and Giulio is good for the ambitions of the team. It’s a home race for them. We all know how much the Giro means to Italians. I look forward to joining forces, ”said the Dutch climber.
Vincenzo Nibali is happy that the Giro organization is innovative. “We are going to discover three new challenges such as Campo Felice, Sega di Ala and Alpe di Mera,” says the experienced Italian. “There are always new things that will cause a stir, that is the tradition of the Giro. And we have the monster climbs such as the Monte Zoncolan of course.”
The Tour of Italy is a big goal for Giulio Ciccone of Trek Segafredo. “I think the Giro has shown how important it is for the cycling calendar. The course is tough and offers many opportunities for climbers like me. We go to the Appennines, the Dolomites and the Alps. I am spoiled for choice and that makes me happy ”, says Ciccone. “My goal is to start in top condition and go for stage victories. I will now take the time to study the course and prepare for it. ”
