News: Star Names Sign up for Saint Piran 05/03 Team

Whilst the Saint Piran UCI team has strengthened its squad like never before, the 05/03 team linked to Saint Piran, is starting a new chapter as a development team with three big names from the sport; Chris Latham, Pete Williams and Will Bjergfelt. All three have raced for UCI teams and had success. Latham and Williams for example have both won the Beaumont Trophy whilst Williams took home classification jerseys in the Tour of Britain.

With these riders having various goals in the sport at World level for 2023/24, the 05/03 Saint Piran Team will provide a platform for them to ride in National level events. The team for example have signed a paracycling rider for Great Britain, Will Bjergfelt, to be their main road captain. Joining him will be Chris Latham who has also committed to the GB Para-Olympic programme.

Chris started cycling after going to the velodrome on a primary school trip and from there, was part of Great Britain cycling team development programmes and onto the Podium squad. Chris has also ridden for multiple UCI teams such as Team Wiggins, One Pro Cycling, Vitus Pro Cycling p/b Brother UK and SwiftCarbon Pro Cycling. As well as the win at Beaumont Trophy, Chris won the Klondike GP prem as well and has been on the podium at events on the track and road since 2013. Those podiums include World Championships on the track and Commonwealth Games.

After a break from the sport for a few years, Chris has returned to the Great Britain squad to ride on the front of a tandem. In 2022, Chris was on front of the tandem with Steve Bate behind him and the two combined to win a world title in the Individual Pursuit at the Paris World Championships and in recent results from the Premier Track League at Manchester (2023), Chris has been getting some good results solo in races there. Chris will now be chasing World records and Gold medals in the Individual Pursuit (tandem) and making his mark in Paracycling just as he did as a solo rider in domestic and world events.

Team boss Richard Pascoe says “Chris loves racing in UK and his 05/03 team aim to give him that with National A races and more.”  Chris is committed to the ParaOlympics for the next four years and these events will help him get back to his best. It’s about enjoying cycling and Chris wants to show the young riders in 05/03 his rear wheel” says Ricci.

More on the team signings to come…
