The event will be the first of its kind in the UK, taking riders onto unseen tracks across three National Trust locations from the 16th to 23rd August 2014.
In teams of two, a combination of pro and amateur riders will take on trails that incorporate elements three mountain bike disciplines – marathon, cross country and enduro – testing even the most experienced riders.
XCALIBRE will take place in Pembrokeshire, the Brecon Beacons, including the Bike Park Wales downhill centre, followed by the grand finale on Exmoor in Somerset. With partners including the National Trust, CTC the National Cycling Charity, Chain Reaction Cycles and SKODA, riders taking part in this unique event can expect an unrivalled experience and support.
Hugh Roberts, Chief Executive of SweetSpot said; “We feel that XCALIBRE will give mountain biking the platform it deserves in the UK. We have great riders and fantastic locations, so there is no reason that the UK shouldn’t be considered a hotspot for mountain bikers all over the world.
“This is an event that promises to grow and will only get bigger and better with age. The challenge for riders taking part is unrivalled, with XCALIBRE giving riders the opportunity to ride in some spectacular locations on routes created specifically for the event.â€
XCALIBRE will bring to Britain the two-rider team format made popular by world-famous events such as the Cape Epic and the TransAlp, providing a variety of challenges to up to 500 competing teams, including night time stages, a prologue time trial and a mass start 60-kilometre loop.
As well as the challenging terrain and expert designed routes of Wales and the South West, the two-rider format will ensure a shared experience, through the highs and the lows riding across over 200km of trails.
