News – Sam Walton Memorial Border Trophy

The race is the longest running road race in the North east, and in recent years the race has been won by Robbie Hassan, Chris Newton, Pete Williams, Kit Gilham and Scott McCrossan.

The race this year takes place on an out and back course of 54 mile plus an additional two circuits of fourteen miles. Making a total distance 82 mile, making it a full distance national B race open to elite, first, second and third cat riders.

Points will therefore be awarded down to 20th place and with only 23 people entered the chance of third cats getting points are good. Currently the race only has one elite rider and five first cats entered.

Most of the professional teams will be riding the national road champs.

The race takes place on quiet country roads and travels into Redesdale and Coquetdale in the Northumberland National Park. The race includes the traditional ascents of Bilsmoor and Winter’s Gibbet. It is also one of the cheapest national bc races to enter, at £14 in advance.
