NGMRR 2014 podium

The weather was kind to us again today with sunny skies and light winds and 74 riders lined up for the 9 laps and 92 miles of the Astwood/Cranfield circuit. Two riders, Owen James (BH Solidor) and Mitchell Webber (Pedal Heaven) broke clear on the first lap and stayed away for another, with Owen taking the first £25 prime along the way.

They were caught on lap three and the bunch stayed together with Owen Lake (Richardson’s-Trek) taking the second prime. Then on lap six Robert Moore (Pedal Heaven) and Toby Parnell (Cambridge CC) jumped from the bunch and soon gained over a minute’s lead with Moore mopping up the final prime of the day along the way.

Sensing that this could be the move that sticks Luke Ryan (Richardson’s-Trek) put in a great effort to bridge up to the two leaders with one lap to go. Sadly Parnell paying for his earlier efforts started to cramp causing him to drop back to the bunch and leaving Moore and Ryan to press on alone.

Hitting the final climb to the finish Robert Moore had a little more gas left in the tank and powered ahead of Luke Ryan to take Pedal Heaven’s second Neil Gardner Memorial win in three years and taking home the £150 first prize. Callum Grieve (Twenty3c) rounded out the podium with a fine third place.
