Wiggle Honda and Team Raleigh are among the teams in the elite racing. The Mayor of London, Boris Johnson, said: “Exactly a month before the Tour de France rolls into our great city, the Jupiter London Nocturne will kick-start another sensational summer of cycling in the capital.â€
There’ll be a pop-up London Nocturne bar right by the start/finish line, for the first time ever! The Nocturne bar will be next to the cycling expo area and big screen, while bars and restaurants all around the circuit are sure to be buzzing.
The Leigh Day Kermesse (5pm) features 70 high-level amateur riders – four Italian riders from Team Cinelli Chrome will fly in from the continent to ride the Condor Track Bike Criterium (5.45pm).
In the Ignitr City Criterium (6.15pm), city firms and tech companies will go head-to-head, while 24 riders will go flat out in the Penny Farthing Race (6.45pm), always a favourite with the Nocturne crowd.
The first-ever Barclays Cycle Hire Race (7.45pm) features Rough Copy (X Factor), Jeanette Kwayke, Andy Samuels, Jade Avia and 5Live presenter OJ Borg, all vying for glory on the famous ‘Boris Bikes’.
The winner of the IMImobile Folding Bike Race Final (8.30pm) get a Tern bike! The Elite Women’s Criterium (8.50pm) and the Schwalbe Elite Criterium (9.30pm) will round off the racing: presentations and champagne-spraying take place at around 10.20pm.
Edward Bonham-Carter, Vice-Chairman Jupiter said: “The Nocturne is a fantastic event which captures the culture and variety of cycling in the capital. Culminating in the elite races, the event gives spectators a fantastic view of the speed and agility which makes cycling such a great sport. We’re looking forward to a successful partnership and are really excited about the first event in June.â€
