Following the British Circuit Race Championships on Wednesday night, the best of British pros head even further north to Stockton on Tees for the Friday night races there. Part of the 3 day Stockton Cycling Festival, the Town Centre Races will see the pro riders lapping the tight 1km circuit at speeds of 40mph or faster.

Winner of the Friday Night crit in 2013 was George Atkings, racing for Raleigh in 2014.

Some of the big names on the start sheet include the inform Dean Downing (NFTO) and Raleigh’s Ian Wilkinson, winner of the Sunday race at Stockton in 2013, and now on the comeback after a season break forced upon him by illness.

On the Sunday, sees the ‘Premier Calendar’ level races return after the Nationals two weeks ago and before that, the UCI Beaumont Trophy at nearby Northumberland. The Stockton Velo29-Altua Grand Prix is the first of three National Series Elite road races in July with Ryedale on the 20th and the Circuit of the Fens on July 27.

This race has suited the sprinters in the past with Graham Briggs and Ian Wilkinson having won it and I am sure there will be a few fastmen looking to get their hands in the air. Riders like Adam Blythe (NFTO), last years winner Ian Wilkinson of Raleigh, Tom Scully of Madison Genesis, another former winner in Graham Briggs (Rapha Condor Sharp) with a fast teammate like Chris Opie also a big favourite.

Velosure – Giordana have a strong line up with the likes of Marcin Bialoblocki, Rob Partridge and Steve Lampier poised to strike whilst Zachery May & David McGowan have good recent form for their team Metaltek KUOTA RT and last year, Ben Stockdale was in the mix for the victory.

Adam Duggleby of Wheelbase Altura MGD has track speed to help him in the event of a bunch gallop whilst Gruffudd Lewis and Alex Paton were both impressive in the Tour Series. Finally, no sprinter but sure to make a break if one sticks on this rolling course is paracycling world champion Jozef Metelka whilst it will be great to see father and son John and Jake Tanner also racing the event. John is a multi winner of the Premier Calendar and so has plenty of experience to hand down to his son Jake.

Bunch kick in one of the most open Prems in 2013 was won by Ian Wilkinson who rides for Raleigh in 2014.
