Feature: Aydin Rezazadeh Season Highlights

Aydin is a 22-year-old 2nd cat road racer competing for the trainSharp Development Team from Vancouver, Canada living in Greater Manchester while he does a masters in Healthcare Ethics and Law at the University of Manchester.

This past season, while finishing up his undergrad Law degree at Durham University, Aydin managed to move up from category 3, with a win at a criterium in Hull, two podiums in Lancaster in March and June and a bunch of other top 10’s. Aydin also had his National B debut at the BUCS University Road Race Champs. “I loved every second of racing at the elite level in the UK. In Canada over the summer, I earned my first three top-10’s in E/1/2 races, and I also finished the 230km SBT Gravel Race in Colorado, USA!”

“It’s a tricky time to be a bike racer in the UK, with the path to Conti level narrowing thanks to a dwindling number of teams, and with Elite teams like Spirit BSS and others disappearing (merging with other teams), as well as organisers struggling to put races on. Even so, this year I was so keen to have a full season of racing Nat B’s and Regional A’s around the country alongside studying for my master’s degree.”

“Above anything else, my goal has been to train and race as hard as I can and see what can come from it, with some of my targets being the BUCS Road Race, the Otley and Ilkley GPs, and the British Columbia Provincial Championships back home. The dream would be to earn a spot on an Elite team and prove I belong at this level in the sport, and as a person who struggles with clinical depression and anxiety, I want to see if I can show what one can do if you don’t let your mental health define you and never give up.”

“While I know this season was going to be challenging for everyone, from riders to teams and race organisers, I could not be more excited for the year to come (2023) and for all the racing.”
