IN MEMORY OF DAVE PECK

I (Lisa West) and my fellow club-mates at Twickenham CC are pleased to welcome you all to our race at Virginia Water. Once again, we are thrilled that we have a full field and I urge all riders to pay heed to the rules of the road and the Commissaires instructions to ensure you all have a safe and enjoyable race.

Twickenham CC Club Chairman, Dave Peck, sadly passed away as a result of injuries suffered from a fall whilst on a London-to-Paris ride in 2011. Dave was an avid supporter of road racing and played a key part in setting up this event back in 2008. At his funeral, his brother Andy Peck asked us to do something positive for cycling and that’s when I decided to continue running what is now an annual event in Dave’s memory. There is always exciting racing and many compliments afterwards about how much you, the riders and supporters have enjoyed the event. I know Dave would be so happy to see how well the event is being regarded and let’s hope he can make it a bit warmer with some sunshine in 2024!

This race is the 2nd event in the British Women’s Team Cup Competition. As well as riders individually scoring BC points for the first 20 places as it is a National B race, the riders in teams that are registered for the Team Cup also accrue team points according to the finish positions of the first four riders in each team, irrespective of how far down the field they finish. The competition will be hotly contested over seven races in the 2024 series. We are thrilled to welcome back Ruth Shier who won the race with a 6 minute lead last year as part of the Hutchinson-Brother team who all rode superbly throughout all the BWTC races to become 2023 Team Cup champions. But will we see our current BWTC 2024 competition leaders FTP Racing Team further their lead or will it change to one of the other 25 teams in this years competition?

Now in our 131st year, Twickenham CC have a diverse and active membership who participate in many cycling disciplines. TCC are proud to organise this event as part of the club’s ethos to promote cycling from grass roots through to national level.

THE COURSE
10 combined laps Valley End & Staple Hill circuits

The race will be neutralised from the HQ car park turning left onto Sandhills Lane, left at the crossroads and up Trumpsgreen Avenue with a rolling start under the Motorway Bridge just before Longcross Estate Roundabout. Take the first exit at the Longcross Estate roundabout and cross the next roundabout (2nd exit) onto Chertsey Rd, 2nd exit at next roundabout continuing on Chertsey Rd.

Take first sharp left (caution) into Higham Lane, then first sharp left (caution) at Valley End School into Valley End Lane. At the end of the road, turn left onto B383 Chobham Rd and proceed north, ride around the roundabout to exit back onto the B383 Chobham Rd. Proceed downhill (extreme caution) to take the first left onto Staple Hill. At the end of the road turn left onto Longcross Rd and take first exit at roundabout onto B386 Chertsey Rd which completes the race circuit.

The race will finish on the 10th lap at the top of the Staple Hill climb. The road will be closed on the last lap 1km before the finish at the bottom of Staple Hill. Please continue on beyond the finish, turning left onto Longcross Rd, right at the roundabout onto Chobham Lane and retrace route back to HQ. Riders who are more than 15 minutes behind the main bunch as they enter the final lap will be stopped on the finish line by means of the chequered flag. You will still be given a finishing position according to Team Cup rules.

Note the feed zone will be just after the car park near the end of Valley End road. Helpers please use the car park near the end of Valley End Rd on the right.
