JLT CONDOR presented by Mavic announce 2016 roster

Team Press Release

Britain’s longest standing UCI team, JLT Condor, announces a bolstered roster for 2016.
The British Continental squad will increase in size with the aim of being even more competitive at both domestic and international level.

JLT Condor retain the double Olympic champion, Ed Clancy MBE, and will support him as he attempts to win a third team pursuit gold alongside Sir Bradley Wiggins at the Rio Olympics.

Ex World Tour and Team Sky rider, Russell Downing, heads the list of new signings. The former British road race champion joins from the Danish squad, Cult Energy Racing. Downing has an illustrious career spanning three decades and brings a wealth of experience to the 2016 squad.

Speaking about his motivations to join the team, Russ Downing commented: “I’ve known John Herety for a long time; back to when I was riding for Team GB. I have wanted to work with him for a few years and we have spoken almost every winter and finally we were able to make it happen. The combination of being able to pass on my experience to ambitious young riders and returning to what is an improving British race scene which can boast 14 UCI race days was an attraction for me to join JLT Condor.”

2015 World Team Pursuit Champion, Alex Frame from New Zealand, will join the team and, like Clancy, will combine his 2016 Olympic track ambitions with his ultimate goal of moving to the World Tour.  19 year-old sprint talent, Chris Lawless, joins from Team Wiggins after a breakthrough season on the British domestic scene.

John Herety says “Russ is a big signing for us. He will be our team captain for 2016 and his role will be to support our new signings, Chris Lawless and Alex Frame, as well as our current sprinter, Graham Briggs. I am delighted he has joined us”.

Irish rider, Conor Dunne, who featured in a long breakaway in this year’s world road race championships in Richmond, will swap his An Post Chain Reaction jersey for the black and yellow of JLT Condor, and brings with him his fellow An Post teammate, Ali Slater.  Former British academy riders George Atkins and Jon Mould move across from One Pro Cycling along with young talent Steve Williams.

“We have considerably strengthened the team for 2016. Having a World Pursuit Champion in Alex and former national champion in Downing is rewarding to start with. As with previous years we have a mixed international and domestic calendar and I see many opportunities for success.”

Joining John Herety’s management team is Tim Kennaugh, brother to Team Sky’s Pete Kennaugh. He takes on the full time role of performance manager, after working part-time with the team in 2014 and 2015.

JLT Condor presented by Mavic for 2016:
Ed Clancy, Russ Downing (Cult Energy), Graham Briggs, Chris Lawless (Wiggins), George Atkins (One Pro), Tom Moses, Luke Grivell Mellor, Ed Laverack, Conor Dunne (An Post), David McCarthy, Jon Mould (One Pro), Steve Lampier (Raleigh GAC), Stephen William, Alistair Slater (An Post), Alex Frame

Formed in 2006, JLT Condor has been a British based UCI Continental squad since 2007, known as Rapha Condor JLT until the end of 2014. This season the team enjoyed top ten performances at the Tour of Yorkshire, Tour of Korea and Tour of Britain in 2015, and will look to build further as one of Britain’s most successful Continental teams.
In 2015, JLT Condor became the first team to be supported head-to-toe by Mavic apparel, helmets and shoes.
