Feature – Matthias Barnet Q & A

1. When will you start your road season and what will be the first race?
Matthias: I will be starting my season at the end of February at the Junior Kuurne Brussels Kuurne UCI 2:1.

2. What races will be your targets for 2016 and why?
Matthias: The races I will be focusing on the most are the UCI races and hopefully gain a lot of experience from them. I would also like to podium at a British series round.

3. How will you spend the time on the bike between now and your first race in training?
Matthias: I did a lot of long miles through out December in Germany and in Britain in January. Now I’m doing more shorter efforts on the turbo and out on the roads in preparation for the short climbs and cobbles we will face in Kuurne Brussels Kuurne.

4. What was your favourite Xmas present?
Matthias: my favourite Christmas present was my SRM PC8 head unit.

5. When it rains, which its doing a lot right now, is it turbo time or wrap up and get wet?
Matthias: I would always rather go outside with a bunch or with my team mates as once you get out there you realise it’s not that bad. I always bring a spare pair of gloves in my pocket as my hands always seem to get cold when it rains.

6. If you could do any race in the world including World Tour etc, what would it be and why?
Matthias: I would choose to race in the Vuelta Espana as it has a lot of climbing and just think it would be a tough race. The crowds are also crazy it would be so cool to ride up the climbs with all the spectators cheering you on.

7. Who’s your favourite rider in the pro peloton (either UK or WorldTour/ProConti)
Matthias: Tom Dumoulin as he’s young and gave it his all at the Vuelta and was fighting every stage to try and keep the jersey.

8. What is your favourite music track when warming up for a race or on the turbo?
Matthias: Tour de France: Kraftwerk

9. If given the option, normal brakes or discs?
Matthias: I would go for rim brakes on the road because I know they work and never really used disk breaks as I have only really done road and track

10. What’s the spec of your race bike for 2016 and your favourite bits on it?
Matthias: The team bike for 2016 is the Kuota Kryons! My DuraAce Di2 is my favourite bit – it makes for smooth changes.
