News: Berkhamsted Castle Backdrop to Bike Racing

Berkhamsted Castle is the backdrop to the town’s first major cycling festival. On Sunday 10 July 2016, the town’s community road cycling group, Berkhamsted Cycling Club (BCC), will be staging a round of the Tarmac Tour of Hertfordshire Series in the Castle area – the Berkhamsted Castle Revolutions Festival.

The roads around the Castle will be closed, providing a closed road racing circuit, and the Castle grounds will be used to provide a range of entertainment for all the family.

The circuit will be used to stage a variety of cycling events, from open sessions to the public, a scooter event, a Brompton race, junior racing, through to full blown adult racing.

The Chairman of BCC, Nick Kurth, said, ‘The town’s community cycling club is staging the event for local cyclists, local businesses and local people. Come and join us – it should be a great day out for all the family. It is free to the public and a donation will be made to the local charity, The Hospice of St Francis.

Please do support the town’s racers – they will be wearing the distinctive blue and yellow BCC kit (the town’s colours) and would value your support.’ Gates open at 10.00 am and close at 6.00 pm.

The event has been planned with the local council and English Heritage, and residents directly affected have been supportive of the Festival. it is suggested that Berkhamsted motorists may wish to consider avoiding the roads around the Castle on 10 July. For further details about the event please contact the Club’s Secretary, Simon Voysey, on 07540 415664.
