Event news: Regional Youth Series

British Cycling has announced the launch of 10 Regional Youth Circuit Series for 2022 in an effort to support riders to progress from local to national competition as well as keep more young riders engaged in the sport and widen the number of racing opportunities available to them.

With almost 50 races already scheduled across the English regions, as well as Scotland and Wales, the mix of new and well-established events have been carefully coordinated to not clash with existing youth and junior national series events and build on the success of existing series and leagues taking place across the country. Details of two further series in Yorkshire and the East Midlands will be published soon, guaranteeing local racing opportunities for riders in all 10 of the English regions.

Through these events, riders will be able to access high-quality racing opportunities closer to home without the need to travel long distances, utilising local facilities and club networks and meeting new people in the process. Improving the regional and national racing offer is a core ambition of our long-term plan for the road and circuit disciplines, published in May 2021, to improve progression and retention opportunities for riders. Today’s announcement follows soon after last month’s launch of a new Under-23 Men’s National Road Series, with five rounds from April to August taking place across five different regions.

British Cycling’s Cycling Delivery Director, Dani Every, said: “We understand the vital importance of providing children and young people with fun, convenient and progressive racing opportunities, and thanks to the hard work of our regional teams and local organisers we’ve been able to provide a comprehensive series in eight of the English regions and Scotland, with Wales to follow. While there is always more to do, I hope that this and the recent announcement of the Under-23 Men’s National Road Series highlights our sincere determination to address the challenges within road and circuit racing, and as ever we’re incredibly thankful to our Road Commission and all of the local organisers, volunteers and parents who make so much of this work possible.”
