Shaw, Rose, Creamer, Curtis and Hayward to turn professional with Podium Ambition

Following on from the exciting announcement that Podium Ambition Ltd is to register a UCI Women’s professional team for 2016, the company has been busy securing the signatures of existing and new riders that will make up the 14 strong squad.

With Joanna Rowsell-Shand, Katie Archibald and Dame Sarah Storey confirmed with the registration announcement, an additional five riders from the existing Pearl Izumi – Sports Tours International team have confirmed their professional ambitions and signed for 2016.

Gabriella Shaw, recent winner of the Tickhill GP; Claire Rose [nee Galloway] former GB Team Pursuit rider who has been quiet on the racing scene whilst qualifying as a Doctor and getting married; Lauren Creamer who is based in Birmingham and attached to the Irish Team Pursuit team aiming for Rio 2016 qualification; Katie Curtis, a former GB rider and professional with Vision One back in 2009 and Bethany Hayward who joined with the team as a Junior Road Race National Champion at the start of 2015 and has quickly established herself as a loyal team mate within the squad.

Each of these riders already have UCI experience from this year and previous season’s and will create a strong core to which new signings will be added in the coming week.
Speaking of the signings, Barney Storey, Director of Podium Ambition said, “Our team is known for its nucleus of strong, loyal riders who have worked together over a number of years. Whilst we aren’t able to take everyone from the existing team into the professional ranks, we are delighted to retain 8 riders as it has always been our intentions to nurture talent that can step up with us.”

Marty McCrossan, who started working with the team from the end of 2014 spoke of the importance of the squad sticking together as they take the next step, “It’s an exciting opportunity for everyone, but to be taking the step up as such a close knit unit, that helps create a smooth transition and take away the anxiety of leaving what they know to join a team abroad.”

“I know these girls are ready to create their race opportunities next year because I have seen their rate of improvement over the past 12 months. Being able to add so much British based talent to the UCI peloton is no mean feat and is a testament to how hard these girls are working to make their dreams a reality.”

Bethany Hayward, who rode in the 2014 Junior Worlds team for Great Britain spoke of her excitement to step up another level in her second year as an under 23, “2015 has been a huge year for me with finishing my A levels and doing 3 UCI stage races. I have loved every minute of it and so to get the chance to ride in a UCI team next year, which will be a gap year for me whilst I decide on my aspirations for University, is just the perfect step up.”

“I know I speak for all my team mates when I say we are ready for the challenge and being able to take this step together makes it an even better prospect.”

Podium Ambition Ltd is the not-for-profit company that was set up in 2013 to run the team and promote the work of Boot Out Breast Cancer. The purple in the team kit represents the fact that men get Breast Cancer too and this message needs to be pushed further as so few people know about it.
