Tom Scully has left Raleigh and gone to Madison. Raleigh meanwhile signed another double winner from the Tour Series, Yanto Barker. The merry-go-round in British cycling goes on.

Team manager Roger Hammond said of the signings, “I’m really looking forward to working with this group of riders next year. Each and every one of them is eager to learn and progress in the world of professional cycling – an attribute I highly value”.

Madison Genesis welcomes the arrival of a number of versatile and experienced riders for 2014, whilst the development-led ethos of the team continues with the presence of numerous up and coming talents. These new additions will see the team increase in size to 13 riders, up from the 10 that made up the inaugural 2013 team.

Tom Scully is the highest profile rider to join the Madison Genesis team for 2014. The formidable Kiwi is accomplished at winning races alone and in bunch sprints. This year, he won two rounds and the Overall Sprint jersey at the Pearl Izumi Tour Series as well as winning the London Nocturne. Pete Hawkins, despite an injury-tarnished 2013, was still able to win a stage of the infamous AN Post Ras.

While Raleigh has reduced its roster to 10, Madison-Genesis increased its allowing Tom Stewart, a high flyer in the Premier Calendar, to join Roger Hammond’s squad.

Tom Stewart joins the team as one of the most exciting prospects on the UK scene. Following his recent conversion from mountain biking, Tom finished an impressive second place overall in the 2013 Premier Calendar series. Another Kiwi joining the team is Mike Northey. Mike is a versatile attacking rider, equally at home in the Tour Series and the climbs of the Grand Prix of Wales which he won this year.

Winning The Bole hill road race in only his second year as a senior rider, 19-year-old Matt Holmes is an exciting addition to the squad.  The youngest rider in the squad, Scott Davies showed his ability and level headedness at the World Junior Road Race Championships where he finished in a superb seventh place on a circuit reputed to be the hardest for at least a decade. Last but not least, Tobyn Horton. A strong fast finisher, Tobyn was a member of the Tour Series winning UK Youth squad, with multiple podium finishes during the series.

“I am sure the new riders will not only strengthen the core of the team, but also, more importantly, increase the versatility of the team enabling us to be more competitive throughout the ever-diversifying road race calendar. I can’t wait to get started” explained Hammond.
