News – Tour Series Support Race – Ryde

On Thursday 14th May, the Pearl Izumi Tour Series will visit Ryde, Isle of Wight for the opening race of this year’s professional racing series. A stellar line-up will take to the streets of the Island’s seaside town, and there are rumours of one Sir Bradley Wiggins making an appearance with his new self-titled team.

As part of the event, Wightlink-LCM Systems Cycle Race Team manager Russell Page has organised a support race. The race is for 2nd and 3rd category riders and will consist of 45 minutes plus five laps around the Tour Series circuit, before the professionals roll out later in the evening.

This is a fantastic opportunity for non-professional riders to ride, experience and, for one of them, win on a professional road racing course. Entries available through British Cycling:

What’s more, there are plans for a business race. This will take the form of a team relay, with local businesses entering teams of four riders – two men, two women. Each rider will do a lap of the course before a teammate takes over.

As well as that, Wightlink-LCM Systems CRT has been invited to enter the professional team time trial, pitting them against the big domestic teams. One of the most successful riders the Island has ever produced, Kieran Page will be doing a piece with ITV4 to talk about cycling on our Bicycle Island and about racing against the visiting British domestic teams.
