To encourage greater female participation in cycle racing, Cheltenham & County Cycling Club are organising a Women’s Only cycle road race on the afternoon of Sunday 31st July. With just days remaining to enter before the closing date of 25th July, the club need 9 more entrants to make the event a viable 25-strong competitive field!

The race is open to novices as well as experienced British Cycling Category 3 and 4 racers including Juniors. The race will be held on the Redmarley Circuit, laps of a 9.5 mile fast rolling circuit before a finish sprint up the foot of Hollybush. Closed junctions by Accredited Marshals and the awesome National Escort Group motorcyclists make for a safer race experience.

Cheltenham & County Cycling Club have been keen to make cycling and racing equal for both men and women. A men’s race in the morning already has more than 70 entrants, and despite the lower entry numbers, the prize pot for the women’s race will be the same as the men’s race.

In order to make the race financially viable, the Women’s race is being subsidised by Cheltenham & County Cycling Club and by British Cycling. A team of around 50 people are involved on the day to make the race happen. The club dearly hope that a minimum of a further 9 entrants can be found to bring the event to life.
