Britain’s Matt Rotherham stars in UCI Track Open in Gent last weekend

News – Matt Rotherham stars in Gent
The weekend of 19th and 20th December saw the UCI Christmas meeting take place in Gent.
A sprint and keirin meeting held over two days and attended by many European National Federation teams, British club Sportcity Velo, based at the velodrome in Manchester, took a team of three riders, who were contesting the Elite/U23 sprint and keirin and also the junior boys competition.
Matt Rotherham, although qualifying in 4th in the flying 200, went on to dominate the sprint competition, taking a fine win at the end of a long days racing. Day 2 was keirin day, and the elite competition was again dominated by Matt and a very creditable 4th in the junior boys for Chris Heaton in his first international competition.
Sophie Capewell took the win for GB in the junior girls keirin. Matt finished off the day taking the win in the elite Madison with his younger brother, Tom.
